Stem cell factor (SCF) is a growth factor for multiple cell types. It is expressed in glioma cells and produced as a result of a variety of the types of brain injury. SCF expression encourages the growth of blood vessels needed to expand tumors, rather than directly involving in the tumor cell proliferation.
